On Thursday, October 10th , 2019, the Comboni family around the world celebrated St. Daniel Comboni, its founder. The one in Kinshasa, composed of Fathers, Sisters and Lay Missionaries, was held at the MCCJ Provincial House in Kingabwa, Limeté, to celebrate the memory of the birth in heaven of one of Africa's apostles. Three key moments marked this celebration: the conference on "the reading of the mission in Congo and Kinshasa", animated by Father Jos Das of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM), the projection on the evangelization of Africa in general and of Congo in particular, and the thanksgiving Mass.
In his conference, Father Jos Das, CICM, addressed the challenges facing the mission of the Church today. Among these challenges, he cited corruption, embezzlement, nepotism, poverty, etc. The father then asked himself questions about "how to be a good missionary today in Congo in an environment polluted by anti-values? What are the values of our world, of our society to be encouraged? He encouraged missionaries to denounce corruption, tribalism, nepotism and misappropriation.
During the screening, Father Célestin Ngoré Gali, MCCJ, revisited the significant dates of the evangelization of Congo, beginning with the first century of Christianity. During the Mass of thanksgiving, six lay Comboni missionaries made their official commitment to the mission ad gentes and ad vitam.
It should be noted that: Daniel Comboni (March 15, 1831 - October 10, 1881) is a saint of the Catholic Church. He is the founder of the congregations of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus and the Comboni Missionary Sisters. He was one of the leading 19th century Catholic missionaries in Africa. He was bishop of Khartoum in Sudan, a vicariate that extended north to the DR. Congo. He worked to make Africans protagonists in the Church's mission in Africa and in the world, hence his slogan: "Save Africa through Africa". A dream become a reality when we see the missionary effervescence of the Church of Africa in the world.
