Month of the mission in the Comboni region of Isiro

The month of October 2020, the region of Isiro experienced important events for our region, our province and our Institute.

+ The Magambe Novitiate in Isiro was reopened after almost 24 years of closure due to the war of 1996. The house in Magambe had become a centre of spirituality and accompaniment for the reception of groups from the diocese. Discerning the present needs of the Institute, it was decided by our leaders to reopen the novitiate. Thus, on Saturday 10 October 2020, in the heart of the feast of St. Daniel Comboni, at 10.30 a.m., the provincial of the Comboni Missionaries in Congo, Fr. Leonard, together with other confreres, celebrated the opening Mass of the novitiate with 13 young Congolese who have embarked on this journey.

Before the Mass, they performed the symbolic rite of entry into the novitiate where the Father Master welcomed them as new arrivals. During the Mass, the new novices received the writings of Comboni and took the rule of life as a sign of their adherence to Comboni's charism.

At the end of the Mass, thanks were also given to the Lord for the 50 years of religious life of Brother Duilio and Father Alfredo. Both gave their testimonies to encourage our young men in formation who were beginning the novitiate stage.

After Mass a fraternal meal was shared in the novitiate with the people who accompanied us.

+ Within the framework of the missionary month, on Sunday 11th October 2020, in the Parish of St. Anne of Isiro, a mass was held to send the various leaders of the parish commissions and groups to begin a new pastoral year. The Vicar General of the Diocese of Isiro Niangara, Mgr. Sylvain Malitano, celebrated the Eucharist in which Fr. Eduardo, a Comboni Missionary, was installed as parish priest. The celebrant prayed for those responsible and blessed them for a fruitful apostolate for the pastoral year 2020-2021. Father Eduardo in the rite of installation professed the faith of the church and responded to the commitment as the new head of the Parish. He also received the key to the tabernacle as a sign of his new responsibility.

After the ceremony a meal was shared in the large parish hall.

We thank the Lord for the gift of the Comboni vocation and mission, and we continue to ask for the assistance of our founder to teach us to be holy and capable missionaries as he wanted us to be.
