Fr. Marcelo Fonseca, Provincial Bursar, was invited to present to the Provincial Council the six-monthly report on our financial situation. He also presented the path that the province is taking with regard to self-financing and the projects that the communities have presented. This year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic is also having a negative impact on our economic life. The decrease in external offerings added to the cessation of all our pastoral and apostolic activities has created serious difficulties in the revenues of our communities. The economic situation of our Province thus remains fragile. Liquidity in the banks and procurators' offices is quite reduced because of the pandemic. This situation has forced us to ask the communities to slow down the continuation of the execution of projects and construction work, while waiting for a normal recovery.
To face this situation, the Provincial Council has decided to actively relaunch the steps of self-financing, the elaboration of projects and requests for help in order to offer long-term economic serenity to our communities. But we need enormous sacrifices to achieve this by choosing the paths of self-support and self-financing, transparency and sharing. We will walk this path together in respect, guided by our Christian religious values. For this reason, the Provincial Council invites communities and confreres to work actively both in the search for local and external income and in the responsible management of our goods. We had already taken a good start on the journey of taking charge of our ordinary life. The challenge of the pandemic should not slow down our efforts and sacrifices. Quite the contrary.
